The team at Acadie Dental Centre in Moncton provides you with information and advice below, on dental hygiene and the procedures to be followed after certain interventions by your dentist. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call us!

WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO AFTER AN EXTRACTION

Avoid

  • Drinking with a straw

  • Touching the wound with your fingers

  • Smoking or drinking alcohol

  • Rinsing the mouth or spitting for the next 48 hours

  • Eating food that is too hot or spicy

IF BLEEDING STARTS AGAIN

Use extra compresses or a slightly moistened tea bag and bite down hard for about 20 minutes. If there is a lot of bleeding and the blood does not subside after one hour, send an email to centredentaireacadie@hotmail.com or go to the hospital. Bruises or swelling may appear in the next few days and will gradually disappear. The stitches will dissolve within 5 to 10 days. For any other problem, do not hesitate to contact us.

SOME TIPS FOR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENTS

Invisalign

  • Wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day or as recommended.

  • Continue to wear your aligners even if you lose an attachment or if there is a small tear in your aligner, and contact us.

  • Call the clinic immediately if your aligner has completely broken. In the meantime, wear the previous or next aligner.

  • Always place the aligners in the case when they are not in your mouth. Since they are transparent, they can be easy to misplace.

Fixed or Removable Braces

  • In case anything breaks, contact us as soon as possible and continue to wear the device, if possible.

  • If necessary, expand as recommended. If you forget activation, do so as soon as possible.

  • Contact us at any time if a device is not comfortable or seems like it is not properly in place.

  • If any of the pins of your braces are peeling off or the wire is not in place, call the clinic immediately.

  • Pain is normal the first few days after installation. Take the medication recommended by the dentist if necessary.

  • The application of orthodontic wax can sometimes relieve irritation: you can come get some at the clinic.

HOW TO ENSURE SUCCESS OF TEETH WHITENING AT HOME

  • Brush your teeth well and floss before starting treatment.

  • Remove excess gel with your fingers or a tissue. This will prevent damage to your gums.

  • Keep the gel and trays in your mouth as recommended for the whitening product you are using.

  • Avoid any colored foods during your treatment, such as red wine, blueberries, coffee/tea, tobacco, etc.

  • Contact us immediately in case of pain.

WHAT TO DO AFTER A GUM TRANSPLANT

  • The dressing should remain in place for approximately 5 to 7 days. If it falls off before this, contact us.

  • Take pain medication as recommended.

  • The stitches do not dissolve; they must be removed by a dentist.

  • The palate plate is for your comfort only. It is your choice to wear it or not.
